With Aquatic Biologicals from Greece and FarmLab Diagnostics from Ireland EMAV could welcome new members of the association in June. Aquatic Biologicals is a new company spin-off of the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research. The company was established in May 2019 and is focussed on the Mediterranean aquaculture. Aquatic Biologicals is developing autogenous vaccines for the Mediterranean farmed fish species as well as phage therapy products and offer diagnostic services to the aquaculture industry too. The company is represented by managing director Dr. Pantelis Katharios.
FarmLab Diagnostics is a veterinary owned limited company, managed by the veterinarian John Gilmore, who has established FarmLab Diagnostics in 2011. The lab currently provides a range of diagnostic tests to private veterinary practices, state laboratories, research institutions, pharmaceutical companies and other agri-industry stakeholders in Ireland and is preparing a manufacturing capability for bacterial autogenous vaccines.
With the application of Aquatic Biologicals and FarmLab Diagnostics EMAV could strengthen its regional prevalence in Europe as well as the scientific excellence in the aquatic and diagnostics field, as Peter Behr, Chair of EMAV, emphasised.
Even in the second year of presence EMAV has 21 members located in 12 European countries, including Greece and Ireland, now.
